What is Fascial Stretch Therapy?

Fascial Stretch Therapy™ or FST is a unique, scientifically researched, table-based therapy targeting the neuromyofascial system of the body.  FST is a complete and complementary system intended to achieve optimal flexibility, strength, performance and pain relief. FST™ unique type of assisted stretching that targets not only the muscles, but the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, and joints. FST also targets the entire joint and joint capsule, using traction to remove restrictions from movement and to stimulate lubrication. A therapist will gently pull and move the arms, legs, spine, and neck in a smooth motion through varying planes of movement. There is no pain, not even discomfort. Instead, the gentle movement is stimulating and relaxing at the same time.

What is fascia?

Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds not only our muscles but all structures in our body including bones, organs, vessels, ligaments and tendons.  Innervation of nerves and blood vessels also occurs in the fascia.  Age, trauma, injuries, poor posture and inadequate training can distort, twist and tighten the fascia creating major and minor imbalances in strength, speed, flexibility, balance and agility.  Often the cause of these imbalances goes undetected as most professionals overlook and do not value the importance and function of the fascia.  Providing release in the fascia provides relief to symptoms such as aches and pains, stiffness or tightness, poor circulation, decreased mobility and limited range of motion and addresses the natural processes that occur due to every day living.

Who can benefit?

Everyone can benefit from Fascial Stretch Therapy™;  Weekend warriors, college and professional level athletes, patients recovering from back surgery, knee surgery or joint replacements and generally active individuals looking to improve performance and flexibility.  Clients with chronic health conditions such as fibromyalgia, Parkinson's and arthritis also benefit from Fascial Stretch Therapy™.

What to expect?

For FST sessions, you will remain clothed.  Please wear loose, comfortable clothes you can move freely in.  Since our office has AC and you will be inactive, we recommend long pants (sweats, tights, yoga pants), socks, and tank top or t-shirt.  If you tend to run cold, consider wearing a lightweight, long-sleeved shirt.

Your session will start with a range of motion and postural assessments and review of your health history.  One of our goals is to provide systemic relaxation, so the treatment room will have low light and relaxing music will be playing.

We recommend that new clients start with  a 60 min FST session.
