The Good Sugar

Mysa with The Good Sugar
— Team Mysa

History repeats itself, and this time, for the benefit of your skin. Archeologists and Historians theorize that sugaring may have existed as far back as 1900 B.C. Studies of ancient Egypt suggests that Cleopatra herself used sugar wax for hair removal, then the paste was referred to as “Moum” (pronounced like ‘moon, but with a ‘m’). Matter of fact, there is evidence to indicate this was the preferred method of hair removal in Egypt, Greece, most of the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern ancient civilizations.

“Sugaring, sugar waxing, or Persian waxing is a method of hair removal that has been in use since 1900 BC!”

Tannir, Dania; Leshin, Barry (March 2001). "Sugaring: An Ancient Method of Hair Removal". Dermatologic Surgery.

So why is Mysa bringing back a 1900 B.C. hair removal method to 21st Century Dallas? Well for one, don’t we all want to be Cleopatra? Secondly, science!

  • Natural ingredients are ALWAYS better for your body, especially in the hands of Mysa’s lead Esthetician, Romekka. The sugaring paste consists of four simple ingredients: sugar, citrus (lemon or orange), water, and honey! This combination is effective for various reasons:

  1. Water based: paste sticks to hair and NOT to your skin. This makes the procedure less painful and leaves your skin less irritated.

  2. Citrus: Everything Vitamin C is amazing for your skin’s overall tone, working to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation over the course of just a few treatments.

  3. Sugar & Honey: Naturally sticky, literally nature’s wax. No heating required leading to less irritation. Discarded pastes are 100% biodegradable so cheers to you for helping our planet while getting your wax on!

  • Lasers are NOT a “permanent solution” to hair removal! I hate to be the one to say it, but there is NO permanent hair removal solution! Lasers, sugaring and even traditional hot wax slow the rate, quantity, and thickness of regrowth on treated area. This means, over time, with consistent treatments, you may quite frankly think your treatment was a permanent solution. The hair will grow out thinner and thinner each time due to continued follicle damage. However, the human body is a self-healing genius! Skip enough treatments and those hair shafts will heal themselves, and proceed to growth thicker, healthier hair. This is true for lasers as well as sugaring, whatever you choose, consistency is key!

The Hair Bulb and Hair Follicle are damage each time hair is removed with wax or lasers. This damage will be reversed by the body if consistent hair removal treatments stop.

“Simply put, if cancer survivors can re-grow hair after extensive radiation with lasers shooting rays 10 thousand times more powerful than hair removal lasers, then yes, your hair will regrow too!

  • Lasers target the dark color/pigment in hair, not the hair itself! This means a laser treatment can very well be damaging to those of some pigment. The ideal laser hair removal candidate is one with dark hair on very pale skin. Full disclosure, there have been many advances made in laser hair removal technology, however, there is not a single machine on the market that has not had some negative effect on clients with even just trace amounts of melanin.

  • Sugaring is cost effective! you should not have to get your credit checked, commit an amount equal to the down-payment of a car, or make heavy monthly payments on a treatment that WILL NOT PERMANENTLY remove unwanted hair! Fiscally absurd. Sugaring sessions at Mysa are all under $200* and you get the same results as laser treatments minus the fear of negative effects to your skin!

Mysa is a 21st century brainchild of a millennial, so yes, we pride ourselves in using innovative techniques. However, effectiveness and safety guide all our treatments, as well as our commitment to putting on your body products made with ingredients that will NOT harm you!
